Engagement Rings in Pittsburgh
Chapel Hills Jewelry has helped Pittsburgh couples choose and design engagement rings since 1989. Bridal is one of the largest parts of what we do — and it's where our workshop really shows: roughly 95% of the engagement rings we create are custom, designed with you rather than chosen from a case. Whether you'd like us to design something original, start from a designer setting, or build a ring around a diamond you pick out yourself, you'll work directly with our family and our bench at our showroom in the Aspinwall area of Pittsburgh.
Custom engagement rings, designed with you
Custom is the heart of our engagement-ring business, and it's more approachable than most people expect. It doesn't have to mean starting from a blank page — it can be as simple as tweaking a setting you love, or as personal as designing something entirely original around a stone and a story.
Lauren Tesauro, part of the second generation running the store, leads our custom design. She'll help you shape the idea, and you'll see it come together before anything is made: we model your ring in CAD and show you an iJewel 360 preview, so you can look at it from every angle and approve the real design — not a sketch. It's also how we rework heirloom jewelry: a grandmother's diamond or an older ring you never wear can become something you'll actually reach for.
If you'd like a sense of styles first, bring in photos of rings you love, or come see settings in person — either is a good place to start.
Natural diamonds, chosen in person
Natural diamonds are our primary business for engagement rings, and we think the best way to choose one is to see it. Rather than steering you toward a single stone, we'll put loose diamonds in front of you and walk through how cut, color, clarity, and carat weight actually change the way a diamond looks — and what you're paying for. Two diamonds with similar specs can look quite different in person, and that comparison is where good decisions get made.
If you'd like to consider a lab-grown diamond, those are available by request, and we're glad to explain the differences plainly so you can decide what's right for you.
An in-house bench — and why it matters for a ring you'll wear forever
An engagement ring isn't a one-time purchase; it's a piece you'll wear every day for decades. That's why our in-house bench matters. Chapel Hills has real, on-site bench capability — diamond setting, ring sizing, repair, restoration, and finishing done here by our own master bench jeweler.
It matters after the ring is yours, too. When it's time to size it, check the setting, clean it, or repair it down the road, you can bring it back to us and have that work handled at our own bench. Designing, making, and caring for a ring in one place is a big part of what we offer as an independent family jeweler.
Designer settings, if you'd rather start there
Not everyone wants to begin from scratch, and that's completely fine. Chapel Hills is an authorized TACORI retailer — a designer well known in bridal for its intricate, hand-finished settings — and we're also an authorized retailer for Simon G. You can start from a designer setting and wear it as-is, or use it as the jumping-off point for a more personal design. Many couples land somewhere in between, and we're happy to guide either way.
A family jeweler in the Aspinwall area
We're an independent, family-owned jeweler, now in our second generation, and our showroom sits along the Allegheny River on Freeport Road — an easy trip from Aspinwall, Fox Chapel, and much of the greater Pittsburgh area. Because we're local and family-run, the person who helps you design a ring is often the same person you'll see when you come back for a wedding band or an anniversary piece. You can read more about our family and our story.
Frequently asked questions
How does designing a custom engagement ring work? It starts with a conversation about your ideas and budget. We help you choose a diamond, design the ring in CAD, and show you an iJewel 360 preview so you can see it from every angle before it's made — then our in-house bench sets and finishes it. Custom can be a small change to a setting or a fully original design.
Do you sell natural diamonds or lab-grown? Natural diamonds are our primary business for engagement rings, and we'll compare loose diamonds with you in person. Lab-grown diamonds are available by request.
Can you use a family diamond or an old ring? Yes — reworking an heirloom stone or older piece into a new design is some of our favorite work.
Do you carry designer engagement rings, or only custom? Both. Much of what we make is custom, and you can also start from a designer setting — we're an authorized retailer for TACORI and Simon G.
